Fleeing New Jersey for Florida

Filed in Tax, Savings by on January 13, 2015

United Van Lines, the country’s largest household mover, says 65% of New Jersey family interstate moves left the state.

This gave New Jersey the highest exit rate for the fourth time in five years. Nearly half of these were fleeing New Jersey for Florida, with 83% leaving for retirement or jobs. New York (64%) and Illinois (63%) were next in the rate of those leaving.

This may relate to Florida having six of the top eight housing price increase places (third quarter, 2014, 31% – 45%), while most of its prices remain far below those in New Jersey, New York, Illinois and California.
